OSRS Light Orbs: XP, Requirements and Lamp Route

Making a wired Light orb requires 87 Crafting and gives 104 XP. Repairing lamps requires 52 Crafting and Firemaking and gives 500 XP in each skill, plus a recurring bonus every 50 lamps.

Two different actions are often confused

Blowing an empty orb and attaching cave goblin wire creates the item. Using completed orbs on broken lamps is the high-XP activity and has the lower level requirement.

Create orb 87 Crafting 104 Crafting XP
Repair lamp 52 Crafting + Firemaking 500 XP in each
50-lamp bonus 2,500 + 2,500 XP
Experienced rate ~130k Crafting/hr Route knowledge required

Creating Light orbs

At 87 Crafting, attach cave goblin wire to an empty light orb for 104 Crafting XP. This creation requirement is boostable. The completed orb is also used for elite and master clue steps.

Repairing Dorgesh-Kaan lamps

With 52 Crafting and 52 Firemaking, each broken lamp consumes one Light orb and awards 500 XP in both skills. Every 50 replacements awards another 2,500 XP in each skill, equivalent to 550 XP per lamp over a complete 50-lamp cycle.

The Wiki estimates roughly 130,000 Crafting and 100,000 Firemaking XP per hour for an experienced route, with learners potentially closer to 90,000 Crafting XP per hour. Lamp state is per player, so world hopping does not produce a better route.
