Perilous Moons OSRS: Weaknesses and Gear Decisions
The three Moons reward different melee styles and defensive consistency. Free in-dungeon supplies reduce cash cost, while flat armour and healing mechanics make ordinary DPS an incomplete estimate.
Do not reuse one weapon blindly
Each Moon has a different zero-defence melee style. A compact three-weapon plan can outperform an expensive single weapon used against the wrong defence profile.
What the calculator can tell you
Use separate loadouts to compare direct attacks against Eclipse, Blue and Blood Moon. This exposes accuracy and max-hit differences caused by their stab, crush and slash defence profiles.
The raw number is not a full encounter simulator. Eclipse has flat armour, Blood can heal, and every room has mechanics that pause or redirect damage. Use calculated DPS to choose gear, not to promise an exact chest time.
Why the activity works for mid-level accounts
Neypotzli supplies food, potions and other resources between fights, reducing the cost of learning. The armour sets also form useful stepping stones, so account progression value may be higher than a live GE total suggests, especially for iron accounts.
Choose a three-style plan
Treat the three Moons as three separate target checks. Eclipse rewards stab, Blue rewards crush and Blood rewards slash, so start by assigning one reliable weapon to each room. A compact plan with three accurate weapons is usually easier to execute than a large inventory of marginal upgrades. The calculator exposes the direct comparison; your route decides whether the extra switches are worth carrying.
Before a first run, write down which weapon belongs to each Moon and which attack style it uses. This reduces the chance of entering a room with the wrong style selected, especially when swapping between armour and weapons after a failed attempt. Once the route is stable, test whether a stronger weapon lowers the total chest time enough to justify its cost or inventory space.
- Run one target comparison for Eclipse, one for Blue and one for Blood.
- Keep a food and potion reserve for learning; free dungeon supplies are part of the activity's value.
- Record room time separately from chest opening and travel time.
- Evaluate armour progression for your account, not only the Grand Exchange sale value.
Why ordinary DPS overstates chest speed
The Moon rooms include mechanics that interrupt damage, change positioning or restore health. Eclipse's flat armour reduces the value of large hits, while Blood Moon can recover health and make a slow or inaccurate setup feel much worse than its average DPS suggests. The page therefore works as a gear filter, not an exact simulator.
For a useful baseline, add each room's calculated attack time, then include movement, mechanic pauses and the time to recover between rooms. Compare complete chest loops instead of selecting the weapon with the highest number against one boss.
Learning and iron-account value
The activity gives free consumables and does not charge a normal supply cost for every failed experiment. That makes an early run valuable even when the hourly cash rate is modest. An iron account may prefer a slower but safer route because the armour and weapon drops can replace future skilling or bossing grinds.
When estimating value, list direct loot, usable upgrades, time spent learning and the chance of a failed chest separately. This keeps a short successful sample from looking like a stable cash rate before your mechanics are consistent.
Compare a chest loop, not one room
A gear change that improves Blue Moon but slows the other two rooms may reduce the completed chest rate. Time the entire loop from entering the dungeon to opening the chest, including room order, healing, movement and reset. Then compare the same loop with the alternative weapon plan. This is especially important when a room's mechanics create a long pause that a direct DPS number cannot represent.
Keep a learning record for your first sessions and a settled record after the route is familiar. The difference is a real part of the activity's value: free supplies make practice affordable, while the final chest rate depends on execution and room order.
Compare Moon loadouts
Start with Blood Moon, then switch the target to Blue and Eclipse using separate loadouts.
